This section of our website addresses many of the
most frequently asked questions that we receive at Marsha Kay Beauty
College.
Q. Is Marsha Kay Beauty College an accredited school?
A. Yes! Marsha Kay Beauty College is accredited
by the National Accrediting Commission of Career Arts & Sciences
(NACCAS). The school is approved to operate in Arkansas by the
Arkansas State Board of Cosmetology. The school is approved by
the United States Department of Education (ED) to participate
in the Title IV Financial Aid Pell Grant Program. In addition,
Marsha Kay Beauty College is an active member of the American
Association of Cosmetology Schools (AACS) and Arkansas Association
of Cosmetology.
Q. What are the graduation requirements?
A. To get your diploma or certificate,
you must complete the 1500 program hours and successfully pass
the written and practical examinations.
Q. Once I finish the program, will I get my license?
A. To get your license, you must
pass an examination by the state board, and Marsha Kay Beauty College
graduates have a very high passing rate. Throughout the course,
we help prepare you for the exam. We’ll even give you a “mock
board exam” so
you’ll know what’s expected.
Q. Tell me about the classes. What can I expect?
A. Classes are diversified. You’re
not going to be stuck in a classroom all day. We have lectures,
of course, but we also have live demonstrations, guest speakers,
videos, and practical application.
Q. When can I start school?
A. Marsha Kay Beauty College has an open enrollment policy, and
programs are offered continuously. Classes start on a monthly basis.
Q. When do I begin to work on "real people"?
A. After the first phase of training
(150 hours), you’ll
be working on patrons.
Q. Is there a minimum age to enroll?
A. Yes, you must be at least 16 years of age to begin training.
Q. Do I need to have a high school diploma?
A. Yes, and if you don’t
have one, you’ll
need a GED certificate. Call the Arkansas State University-Mountain
Home Continuing Education Center at (870) 425-7974 to make an
appointment for assessment testing, classes, practice text or
GED test. The Continuing Education Center is located at 1322
Bradley Drive, Suite 7, Mountain Home.
Q. Do you offer financial aid?
A. Yes! We do have financial aid
available for those who qualify. We offer Title IV financial aid: Federal Pell Grants as well as Arkansas Rural Endowment loans. Loan applications are available at the beauty college and can be used in conjunction with with Pell Grant funds. Loan amounts up to $3,500 are available (WAC) at a low interest rate.
Q. Will you help me find a job once I get my license?
A. Marsha Kay Beauty College offers
Placement Assistance. While we can’t guarantee you a job,
we will help you find your first position and assist you to reach
your career goals.
